Well, This will be the second year I won’t be on the patrol. I am hanging up my jacket in pursuit of better skiing both in Ontario and other areas. I feel like I just want to ski! Although the ski patrol has done well for me, I no longer can make the commitment in hours and training. I will miss most the camaraderie, and fun on the patrol, but those people are still at my home hill and I can visit there any time.

The OSC held their anual Puddle Jump competition on the Standard run. This involved many participants gaining as much speed as possible to try to make it across a rather large ‘puddle’ in at the bottom of the run. This took the organizing power of many staff and volunteers to pull this off. This was alot of fun to photograph as people displayed themselves in their retro, and goofy costumes and tried to make their way into the OSC Record books. Some tried to throw down some goofy style and make the kicker only to find them selves waist deep in snowmaking pond water.
Even a few patrollers made their way across the kicker and into the pond including Giuseppe Milan who was donning a beautiful 80′s UVEX Helmet and his long underwear. Mara Goral ended up being tossed into the pond by an OSC staff member who of course was ‘Life Guarding’ at the time.
Mark Rutherford, GM of the Oshawa Ski Club, participated in this event and ended up being pelted by many snowballs by the onlooking spectators. A sugestion by one of the OSC Terrain Park operators, who had the mic at the time. As you can see kids, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye, then it’s a SPORT!
Some of the OSC Staff layed down some great style, even comin’ in switch and trying to make it across. Hoss from the terrain park did some amazing ‘aquabatics’ on those twin tips! Mark Rutherford even pulled it off on the kicker dispite his lack of vision after the snowball incident.
There was some Big Air, Big Splashes and some Big Fun at the OSC on Sunday, and if you have never been there, it is the best place to slide!
