Well I was nearly stranded if it wasn’t for the keen ear of my Fiance Danielle. On monday morning as I was in Tim Hortons getting my fix, the radio announcer reported ‘TTC On Strike’. There will be no service for today. I am glad this information got out to me when it did, or three minutes later I would have been on my GO bus as usual and would have been stranded at Steeles & Keele waiting for a bus that would never have come.
Danielle and I instantly scrambled to change our routines so that I could use our only vehicle to get to work today. This left Danielle taking the Durham Region Transit to work which is a transit system from *$&%. This leads me to my next rant about transit systems and fares.
GO Transit Fares:
Zone Based Fare System. Going from zone X to zone Y = $…
A suprisingly perfect system for wide range transit, but not too efficient for an intercity system like TTC.
TTC Fares:
$2.75 – One Way!
$2.10 – Ticket / Token
DRT Fares:
$2.50 One Way!
$0.65 If you Connect to Go.
A cool concept, in fact York Region and Brampton Transit offers the same thing.
But wait – DRT will only let you use this if you come from a train station, not if you use the GO Bus?! That makes no sense.
Then again, TTC offers no such CO-Fare when connecting to GO Transit. Why? Is it because they are a poorly managed team of fools? Possibly. Is it because they are money hungry? Likely. Is it because the city keeps waiting for money from the provine to subsidise their transit system? Deffinetly. Why doesn’t TTC get off the damn pot and start making sense.
I suppose it would be too much to ask the TTC employees to stop trying to disrupt the entire city for an entire workday and hope they could leave these negotiations at the table and stop wasting my time. I don’t dissagree with the reasoning for their strike, although because you have to work nights isn’t a reason to strike, but workplace safety is. These issues need to be addressed at the table, not out on the street where no-one really cares about their cause and just wishes someone would delegate these people back to work as was done in this strike.

Canon 30D Released
• Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 Canon 30D Released
Update:
Canon 30D Now in stock at Vistek’s Store in Toronto for only $1649
Canon has finally released their follow up to the 20D. This camera is being released in the US in April of 2006. I can’t wait until this baby comes to Canada! So far the asking price will be roughly $1400 USD.
The camera body is constructed of magnesium-alloy, known for its lightweight and ultra-rigid strength and is equipped with a new high speed shutter capable of 1/8000 second speeds. This new shutter is ratted for 100,000 activations letting you keep your body longer. This also has a 9 point auto focus with a dual precision center focus, an improvement over the rebels, and also displays ISO in the viewfinder.

Not only is the shutter fast on this new body, the frame rate comes in at 5fps for those high speed shots, and a selectable 3 fps if you don’t want to fill your card so quickly. This camera also has a large buffer for up to 11 RAW images and up to 30 JPGs.
Keeping the same 1.6x APS-C size sensor, the DIG!C-II image processor, and the 8.2 MP format as the 20D. This camera should be able to produce the same size images as the 20D with no problem. This for me is not much of a problem, but I would have liked to see a slight improvement on the amount of pixels on this guy. Maybe a 10MP would have been a little better.
I do like the fact that this comes with a 2.5″ screen and also has an RGB Histogram and can display 170°. Magnification has never been faster. It zooms to the focus point rather than the center of the image to check exposure and critical focus. Nice for checking quick, and shoot again.

The 2005 Deer Hunt is soon coming to an end. I spent the last week at our Family Camp near Sundridge, ON. It turned out to be a great week with our trusty friend ‘Wild Bill’ nocking out the first dear by 9:00 AM the first day! The remainder of the week was pleasant except for Wednesday when we woke up to snow, but had to play in the rain the remainder of the day. We didn’t see any other deer until Thursday when my goofy cousin missed a deer on the road from 30 yds. Malcolm got his first this year after a wounding shot and hunt through the bush for a couple hours he finally got the last shot into it and put it down. It was a great week spending all that time alone in the bush, the peacefulness and serenity was astounding. It’s amazing how many things you can get resolved sitting in the bush for hours with no one to talk to but yourself.
