Canon 30D Released

Canon 30D Now in stock at Vistek’s Store in Toronto for only $1649

Canon has finally released their follow up to the 20D. This camera is being released in the US in April of 2006. I can’t wait until this baby comes to Canada! So far the asking price will be roughly $1400 USD.

The camera body is constructed of magnesium-alloy, known for its lightweight and ultra-rigid strength and is equipped with a new high speed shutter capable of 1/8000 second speeds. This new shutter is ratted for 100,000 activations letting you keep your body longer. This also has a 9 point auto focus with a dual precision center focus, an improvement over the rebels, and also displays ISO in the viewfinder.

Not only is the shutter fast on this new body, the frame rate comes in at 5fps for those high speed shots, and a selectable 3 fps if you don’t want to fill your card so quickly. This camera also has a large buffer for up to 11 RAW images and up to 30 JPGs.

Keeping the same 1.6x APS-C size sensor, the DIG!C-II image processor, and the 8.2 MP format as the 20D. This camera should be able to produce the same size images as the 20D with no problem. This for me is not much of a problem, but I would have liked to see a slight improvement on the amount of pixels on this guy. Maybe a 10MP would have been a little better.

I do like the fact that this comes with a 2.5″ screen and also has an RGB Histogram and can display 170°. Magnification has never been faster. It zooms to the focus point rather than the center of the image to check exposure and critical focus. Nice for checking quick, and shoot again.
